Applicators that are used to spread lime can also be used to spread PRO CAL 40. PRO CAL 40 has very fine particle size nearly all passing a 200 mesh screen. This has agronomic benefits, however, it makes application more challenging. Soil Solutions owns and operates two spreaders with Barron &Amp; Brothers boxes. These boxes have 60 degree sides, a 28" gate in the rear and a chain over belt for transporting product out of the box. These features of these spreader boxes make application trouble free.

Many clients have New Leader L2020 or L3020 fertilizer/lime boxes on their spreading equipment. The 2020 box, because of its narrow 12" gate, is not preferred for spreading PRO CAL 40. The 3020 box has a gate approximately 18" wide allowing for easier spreading with less bridging of the product in the box. Moisture content of PRO CAL 40 varies depending upon length of time it has been stockpiled. Generally moisture of the product that has been stockpiled ranges from 7-15%. At this moisture content, application usually works well. The advantage is that wind has little effect on the spread of this material since the particles do not become "air borne". If drier product is required, PRO CAL 40 may also be dried using a rotary drum drier at one of our stockpile locations.

Some clients have also sprayed the sides of their spreader boxes with PAM vegetable oil and silicon sprays to increase slickness so less bridging occurs. Some clients who use L2020 spreaders have also installed vibrators to aid in the feeding of the product.

We have a couple of clients who also have fluidized PRO CAL 40 and applied it as a liquid. It does go into suspension quite easily and with a small amount of suspension clay and 10-34-0 it stays suspended very well till it can be applied. Generally a mixture of 50% water and 50% PRO CAL 40 is used.
